Prostate Cancer: New Treatment Better Than Surgery

Hifu prostate cancer treatment could be a better option than surgery and other prostate cancer treatments such as radiotherapy, according to a trial at the University College Hospital, London.

When used to fight prostate cancer, new treatment Hifu was found to have a 92% success rate at getting rid of cancer cells which is similar to more traditional prostate cancer treatment methods.

However, it appeared to have far fewer of the side effects that are commonly associated with prostate cancer treatments such as urinary incontinence, bowel problems and impotence.

What is Hifu Prostate Cancer Treatment?

What Did the Hifu Prostate Cancer Treatment Trial Show?

172 men underwent Hifu treatment at the University College Hospital, and all were discharged the same day, typically within around five hours. Less than 1% experienced urinary incontinence, none experienced bowel problems, and 35% experienced impotence. These figures are far lower than more traditional forms of prostate cancer treatment.
